Surveying and Cleaning

Modern day pollution and general neglect over the years have caused many building façades to suffer from decay and become blackened, obscuring the beauty of the original architectural features.

Careful and regular cleaning will ensure that the building not only maintains it appearance, but will also reduce the possibility of decay caused by atmospheric build-up.

This carbon-like skin contains many elements that can attack the molecular structure of the building fabric, causing shaling and a general breakdown of the material. Like dentistry, a regular clean and check-up can prevent costly replacements in the future.

On inspection, our surveyors use their experience and knowledge to decide the most effective method of restoring the building to its former glory. With structures varying so much in composition and condition, each one is individually viewed in order to achieve this.

There are several different methods for cleaning buildings, from simple water cleaning to the application of chemicals, the use of controlled pressure air abrasion techniques. Some of these are also used in removing paint from a façade.

The company is an approved user of both the JOS and the DOFF specialist cleaning systems. The JOS System is a low-pressure air abrasion technique and is commonly specified where particular care has to be taken of the original fabric of the building. The very fine abrasion material is applied through a special nozzle that carefully distributes the particulate in a rotary pattern. The JOS system is only one of a number of air abrasion techniques that our trained staff is experienced in carrying out. The DOFF System involves the use of a sophisticated hot pressure washer that is capable of being adjusted through a wide range of temperatures and pressures. This level of control enables the trained and experienced staff member to apply the correct method for dealing with the product being removed. This system is particularly useful when used in the removal of paint, graffiti, chewing gum and oil staining. The system may be used in conjunction with suitable chemical applications if appropriate.
